Dror Pekatch of Team Subaru-Gary Fisher has won the first MTB race of the Israel Cycling Federation for 2010. Pekatch finished ahead of Gody Jacobs and Idan Shapira to win his first race of the season.
The 3-kilometer, nine-lap race turned out to be a muddy affair, as the course got hit by a storm before the race. Jacobs, Pekatch, and Shapira managed to establish themselves in the lead early in the race, but a gap opened up in the third lap that Pekatch managed to hold until the finish line.
The Israeli rider, who is spending his fifth year with Team Subaru-Gary Fisher, expressed his satisfaction at winning the first race of the season, and said that racing with Gody Jacobs actually helped him.
“We know each other for many years and are good friends. Each of us knows his strengths on the course, and we adapted to the muddy, European-like course,” says Pekatch. He adds that his goal for this race was to test himself, and is happy for the win.
For his part, Gody Jacobs of Team Granville says that it’s “great fun to be back in Israel,” but mentioned that the weather was not quite what he expected, referring to the hard rains that muddied up the course.
