An agreement was reached between the Sacramento Sports Commission and the Amgen Tour of California to organize a professional criterium style cycling race before the start of Stage 1 of the 2010 Tour. The race is slated to take place on May 16, 2010.

Travelling 1.4 miles, the Sacramento Grand Prix starts at 10am with its course rounding the Capitol Building. It will run a course that duplicates portions that of the Tour. This will be in time before Stage 1 ends in downtown Sacramento.

The Grand Prix will promote the return of women professional racers to the tour and will be joined by the finest female cyclists in the world. In addition, it will demonstrate the best short course in cycling.
