Road Bikes Being Sold at Walmart

I am sure all of us made a trip to Walmart to pick up maybe paper towels, tooth brush or a video, and sure you may go to the bike section to check out what they have which you will more than likely only see mountain bikes, hybrids and kids bikes. One thing is for sure, we at Bike Reviews have never seen a road bike being sold at Walmart, but with the popularity growing with road cyclists, we have found out Walmart carries road bikes. Although the road bikes for sale are online, this will probably lead to local retail stores carrying the various brands. So far, Walmart online carries Schwinn, GMC, Corsa, Victory, and Kent with most of the bikes containing a affordable price.
Sadly, most Walmart bikes come with problems, mostly due to the in store technicians, but since you can purchase online, assembly is done by you (or a local bike store) which could be better. All in all we think if the recession has got a hold of you, but you want to stay in shape and love road bikes, then purchasing one from Walmart is not a bad choice, as long as you keep in mind about the quality. Sure their are other resources you can purchase a cheap road bike from like eBay or Craigslist, but if you want something brand new then Walmart is worth the look.

Seriously? Are you actually recommending people purchase a bike at a mass merchant retail outlet? You won my “C’mon Man” award for the new year so far.
Jayson,
No, we are recomending someone to purchase one if they are in financial trouble, and since they can put the bike together themselves, they can build it up a lot better. If I can not afford a bike at a LBS, but want to stay in shape and love cycling, and Walmart is my only choice, then I would purchase.
Give me a boat anchor old steel frame, friction shift road bike off of craigslist for $100! Ten times better!!
Deireck, I doubt that. A $100 schwinn from the 70′s or 80′s can only compare in the durability department. I bet these new bikes would outperform most used boom bikes in all areas including maintenance, weight, speed, availability of parts, quality, and performance of parts.
Sorry cyclists, your sport is becoming affordable to us all and we will soon be passing you on the road on our $200 bikes. It seems like most “serious” cyclists would never be caught dead on one of these machines, for multiple reasons, but I personally think it is because they have already spent $1000 on a bike and need to justify that purchase in their own minds. LOOK AT THE SPECS, compare bikes and DON’T listen to anyone else. Do the research yourself!
I purchased a Schwinn Avenue back in April and have had no trouble at all.I had not been on a bike in 30 years, but found the old saying true.I LOVE cycling and have lost 20 pounds and my legs and a– are as tight and tone as they were years ago While I wish I could afford a more expensive bike, I am well pleased with this one. I wouldn’t enter the tTour de France with it but it is great for riding locally. I hope to upgrade and begin venturing on longer rides, but for now I am content with my cheapo.
