Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming 2010 outdoortrophy in Vorarlberg, Austria. This event is known as one of the grandest and biggest in extreme sports, featuring the world’s best athletes competing in their respective disciplines: para-gliding, mountain running, kayaking, and mountain biking.
Fans will be able to see Olympic medalists, World and European champions, professional athletes, and top-notch amateurs from all over the world slug it out for the 12,000 Euros prize, as well as winning the (unofficial) outdoor sports championships.
Chris Alge, head of the outdoortrophy organizing body, says that they have been receiving inquiries from interested countries about joining the extreme sports event, and that they look forward to seeing the “top-class international athletes in Austria.”
The 2010 outdoortrophy will begin with a mountain run that stretches for 15 kilometers, then continuing with the paragliders taking off after the runners arrive at the mountain top. The whitewater rapids will be the next challenge, including riding over a waterfall, and the event closes with the mountain bikers in the last leg.
The competing athletes will be divided into professional and amateur categories (for men and women) plus a special category for company teams. Aside from the races, this year’s outdoortrophy will feature fun-filled highlights such as an acrobatic show by Draco Volans paraglide pilots, plus base jumps from a helicopter. There will also be kid-friendly activities and a live band performance by Die dicken Kinder (The Fat Children).
