Charlie Simpson saw some sad images of the Haiti earthquake and knew he had to do something. What many might not know, Charlie Simpson is 7 years old, and what he did next many people young or old have never done. Charlie organized a sponsored bike-a-thon around his park in London, UK. Charlie wanted to raise at least $800 USD, but since he started the UNICEF made a donation of $109,000 USD. Not only has Charlie help make a huge donation, he now holds the record for most funds raised in a single day. Charlie rode 5 miles, which consisted of him riding around South Park in Fulham with his father and a friend, and at 1.5 miles, Charlie was tired, but kept going for Haiti. Great job Charlie, you are a inspiration to all of us.

Johan Bruyneel, the team manager for RadioShack, states that the team’s focus will be on getting the general classification wins, as always, and that there will be no lead-out train provided for sprinter Gert Steegmans similar to that of Team Sky or Team HTC-Columbia.

Despite signing up Steegmans for the 2010 season, Bruyneel thinks that remaking the strategies and team dynamics to work around a sprinter will be too big of a change. He adds that the team has already proven that it can be successful in the stage races, so the plan is to keep on doing what’s working out for them.

“He’s going to get some protection, but this is not a team known for creating a lead-out train. If we have a sprinter… who can win a race now and then, that’s a good extra and very welcome,” Bruyneel adds. The Belgian has run a team…

U-23 champion Emily Batty of Canada joins the Trek World racing cross-country team for 2010, along with brothers Mathias and Lukas Flueckiger of Switzerland.

The young but seasoned champ (she turns 22 in June) has ridden for Trek Store Toronto for the past two seasons, and has posted impressive performances for her team, which includes a top-ten finish at the Offenburg World Cup, winning the Sea Otter Classic title, and of course winning the U-23 National Cross-Country last season.

In a press release, Emily Batty says that she’s excited by the next step in her career (moving to Trek World) and is looking to compete for some U-23 trophies, as well as the Swiss Bike Trophy race in Bern and other Canadian Cup events. She’s particularly setting her sights on the World Championships this coming September, where she’ll be racing in front of a home crowd.
