Qatar and Oman Tours Attract Big Names

qatar and oman tours attract big names Qatar and Oman Tours Attract Big Names

The start lists for both the 2010 Tour of Qatar and the new Tour of Oman are filling up with a lot of big-name pro-tour riders. The change in climate could be one of the reasons, but one thing is certain: it’s still early in the season, and these riders are looking to fine-tune their form in preparation for more events later this year.

The Amaury Sports Organization (ASO), race organizer for both events, have released the start lists for the Qatar and Oman tours, showing off top-notch cycling talent belonging to at least ten ProTour teams, including the under-23 Trek-Livestrong team.

Last season’s overall winner in the Tour of Qatar, Tom Boonen, will be sporting number one for this year’s race. Boonen has been in dominant form in this event since the inaugural edition, and he will be going after his 3rd conscutive (and 4th overall) win.

22 teams will be seeing action in the upcoming 2010 Paris-Nice, which will begin on March 7 in Montfort l’Amaury and end one week later on March 14 in Nice.

Alberto Contador will have a chance to redeem himself as Team Astana is one of the invited teams scheduled to compete. Contador, a two-time Tour de France champion, has been harboring bitter memories of his last year’s Paris-Nice performance, when he reportedly ‘bonked’ during a critical stage and lost the overall lead which he had grabbed in earlier stages. Luis Leon Sanchez ended up as the winner.

Sylvain Chavanel is expected to race for Team Quick Step. He won stage 3 last year and finished 2nd overall, so he poses a powerful challenge to anyone looking for the title this year.

Teams Milram and Footon-Servetto will not be joining the event, however, since both teams failed the automatic…

Team RadioShack has partnered with Hutchinson and will be using their tires for the team’s upcoming events. Hutchinson tires have earned a reputation for being (arguably) the best bicycle tires in the world, and are known for being the winningest tires in the Tour de France with seven titles.

RadioShack is counting on this winning streak to contribute to their own success, and Julien DeVriese, the team mechanic, heartily agrees. “We are ecstatic to have Hutchinson Tires return to our bikes,” he says. DeVriese adds that the tires are of the highest quality and are able to provide excellent protection against flats. “No other tire on the market compares.”

Hutchinson is providing a choice collection of tires for Team RadioShack, including the Intensive 25cm tires for training and Carbon Comp tubular tires for races. The company is also developing new Road Tubeless tires in time…
