Spaniard Joaquim Rodríguez made the move from Caisse d’Epargne to Katusha in hopes of riding as a team captain, but that plan may be postponed a bit due to a crash during a Katusha training camp. On a training ride today, the second day of the camp, Rodríguez rode into some broken glass which left him with a slashed front tire and deep cuts on his gluteus and thigh. After the crash, he felt dizzy, and was taken to the hospital. “It caused some pretty ugly cuts, one on the gluteus and the other on my thigh. The cuts were deep, with a lot of blood. The cut to the gluteus was so deep you could see the fat. They took me to the hospital, where they gave me 15 stitches and told me to take at least 10 days off the bike,” said Rodríguez. Once his injuries are healed, he will be able to rejoin his teammates, according to team officials.
