The upcoming Pan American Mountain Bike Championships will be held in Guatemala on April 7 to 11, 2010. 12 countries are already confirmed to be attending the event, which will be the first time that a Central American country will be hosting the Pan Am Championships.
This rare chance to host a world-class cycling event in Guatemala comes in light of the rising popularity of mountain biking in the country. Representatives say that the Guatemalan Cycling Federation has “worked very hard to get the Pan Am games” as well as provide a world-class venue befitting the event.
The Pan American Mountain Bike Championships offers a great opportunity for countries looking to amass valuable UCI points that are critical in improving national as well as individual rankings. These rankings will help decide the number of athletes that each competing country will be allowed to send to London to compete in the Olympic Games cross-country race for 2012.
Meanwhile, Guatemalan organizers are going the whole nine yards with the promotion and coverage of their first-ever Continental MTB Championships. Plans are being developed to broadcast the racing action live through their website, which will also contain other related videos, image galleries, race results, plus a discussion forum.
